{~} Bible Wars - Episode I - Prologue {~}

One thing that drives me mad is this recent trend in the United States, a trend that is creeping slowly and that, unfotunately, has spread inside the walls of democratic institutions of the republic : the slow erosion of separation between church and state.

One of the most appalling manifestation of this trend is the mushroom growth of Bible classes and the emergence of creationism as must-have of school curriculum. Religion is supposed to be something that brings people together. Well, Christianity and Islam, while they did a good job for a while, are now totally inappropriate at the task and they have clearly out-Pharisianised the Pharisians...

I decided to take a little personal jab at the invasion of Bible theme stuff everywhere by appropriating the "Holy Book" for myself. I got my hands on this (very badly) illustrated version of the Bible and changed the dialogue and text. Even without erasing the dialogue the work in itself is comical, with blonde and white-skin Adam and Eve and the poor historical reconstitution sandwiched in between the proselytism. Here is a first taste of my own Bible-theme museum.

Un phénomène qui me rend fou, c'est cette tendance récente aux États-Unis, tendance qui envahit lentement mais sûrement jusque les institutions démocratiques de la république : la lente érosion de la séparation de l'Église et de l'État.

Une des manifestations les plus inquiétantes de cette tendance est la croissance accélérée du nombre de classes bibliques et l'émergence du créationnisme comme cours obligatoire du cursus scolaire. La religion est censée rassembler les gens. Malheureusmenet, le christianisme et l'Islam, bien qu'ils aient fait du bon boulot à ce titre pendant un certain temps, s'avèrent aujourd'hui totalement inappropriés à cette tâche et ont assurément surclassé les Pharisiens dans leur propre suffisance...

J'ai décidé de réagir et de mettre mon propre grain de sable dans l'engrenage de cette invasion biblique tous azimuts en m'appropriant le "Livre Saint". J'ai ms la main sur une version (très mal) illustrée de la Bible et j'ai changé le dialogue et le texte. Même sans effacer le dialogue, l'oeuvre est comique, avec ses Adam et Ève blonds à la peau d'ivoire ainsi que la reconstitution historique de piètre qualité prise en sandwich par du prosélytisme de pacotille.
