{~} A TRANSLATRON 5000 WORK WEEK {~}

Well, that sure was a hectic week...

I haven't translated that much since the time I worked for CNST dishing out French subtitles for the Lord of the Rings DVD Special edition (mit kommentär) back in 2003. That's five friggin' years ago, compadre!

Anyway, a friend/colleague had me working on some sociology of medicine stuff and the French -> English part was particularly hellish. You know the type of text you have to read 5 or 6 times before you start to make some sense out of it?
Well anyway, when I translate at that pace, I call it "TRANSLATRON 5000" mode because it sure feels like I'm a machine churning out words for people I don't see. I have one last short Powerpoint on nurse migration and that's that. I can go back full time to my thesis and get THAT done and over with.

There's a sense of pure bliss when you get to the point where an exhausting contract is finished. You've done your part, and then your body can get away from the stress. I was literally spending my days at my computer, working in three shifts of 3.5 hours per day (that's the longest i can work in one stride) so that makes a total of 52.5 hours. At least I got some sun, worked in the garden and ate and slept normally. Well amost normally.

So I'm entitled to a nice weekend relaxing before I go back to my university cubicle to write chapters on the consumption and reception of Finnish dialect translations.

Oh and I need a new iMac...
